Why consider an earlobe repair ?
If you have noticed that the piercing in your lobe has stretched over the years, or the ear has split after wearing heavy earrings, the earring hole in the lobe which has stretched can be repaired, so that you can get it re-pierced and it will be a small and neat hole as before.
How is an earlobe hole repaired ?
The earring hole and all the scar tissue associated with it is removed and the front and back of the ear are neatly sutured in layers. The scar will be small, but it will be on the front and back of the lobe. You will need to wait another 6 weeks before you can get your ears re-pierced.
Why consider an earlobe reduction ?
As we age, our earlobes, just like other areas of our body, may produce less collagen and elastin so the lobes are given to stretch and hang lower. Reducing the size of the earlobes may correct asymmetry, create a neater ear and balance facial proportions. At times, this procedure is combined with other aesthetic procedures of the face, such as a facelift or a lip lift.
How is an earlobe reduction performed ?
An earlobe reduction procedure involves removing a small crescent of your earlobe, to refashion it as a smaller, neater, conchal shape. The incision will be sutured in layers and the scar will be along the edge of your lobe so that it will not be very visible.
Recovery
The incision area may bleed a little following the surgery for a day or two. After this time the earlobe should settle. It is important to keep the area clean and dry and away from direct sun exposure.Avoid putting the phone to the ear for at least a week and avoid pulling tight clothes over the ears.
One week later
The stitches come out and you can have your ears re-pierced between six and eight weeks after your procedure.
How long do the results last?
The procedure is permanent, however if the removal of lobe has been conservative and you age another 10-15 years, the lobe may stretch out again.
Similarly, if the earring hole is repaired and you continue to wear heavy earrings again, there is a chance that the earring hole may stretch out or tear again in the future.
