Nipple Surgery

Nipple reduction, areola reduction and inverted nipple correction

Why consider nipple surgery ?

Nipples vary in size and shape as does the areola – the dark area around the nipple. It is possible to have a nipple reduction in length or diameter or an areola reduction or even correct an inverted nipple. Dr Wetton can perform a nipple correction as a stand alone procedure or together with other surgical procedures, for example a breast augmentation or a breast lift.

How is nipple surgery performed ?

If you would like your areola made smaller, Dr Wetton can perform this technique by removing a ‘donut’ shaped area of skin around your nipple. If you desire a nipple reduction then a ‘tyre’ shaped area of skin on your nipple is removed. Similarly there are various surgical techniques employed to release the tethering of an inverted nipple and maintain its new position.

Recovery

You may have nipple tenderness and you may have a special dressing applied if you have had a surgical correction of an inverted nipple.

After one Week

It will usually take about a week for your nipple to heal enough for it to be less tender when you are changing and when your clothes brush against it. The nipple is a sensitive area and so you may have discomfort in the area for a few months after your surgery.

Complications

  • Infection
