Our Clinic can provideConsultations on reducing the appearance of Wrinkles
It is often easy to be confused about what these substances do, which areas of the face they are best suited for, the effects, outcome, duration and maintenance concerning these products. When you confidently understand the extent of the variety of issues that can be addressed and the optimal outcomes with these modalities, it becomes clear that they work synergistically with each other and also often with surgical procedures. These products are capable of making noticeable changes, especially over time, with repeated use.
Often these products have a strange reputation, in that they are said to be ‘addictive’, because once patients notice the results that they are getting, they often wish to maintain the results. Patients do generally like the effects that these products have and as such, they are considered maintenance products along with medical grade cosmetics and sun protection.
There have not been any substantial medical trials of these products in pregnant or breastfeeding women, and so to err on the side of caution, it is better to wait until you are no longer breastfeeding or pregnant before getting any injectable products.
What is Non-volumising wrinkle reduction ?
These products are usually injected just under the skin, into the muscles of the face in minuscule amounts. These products help to relax the muscles under the skin, thereby giving the skin a chance to relax and lie flat. They are designed to help flatten and smooth existing lines, and help prevent new lines from forming.
It generally takes up to two weeks to notice the effects of these products and the effects usually last around three months, but this may vary from person to person.
What is Fresh product? Why may it be preferable to have fresh product?
Dr Wetton is of the belief that non-volumising wrinkle reduction injections are most effective when used very fresh, ie the vial of product is opened when it is injected. She does not believe in keeping these products in the fridge for days or weeks. There are very few clinics who offer fresh products to all patients.
Why have IHad a bad experience with these treatments in the past
- The product was injected into the wrong muscle/area
- The products was too dilute
- The product was old, and thus not as effective
- There was an insufficient amount of product injected
- The after care instructions were not given or followed
- Too much product was injected into the wrong muscles for your facial dynamics
- You are immune to the product (very rare)
Non-surgical Which areas of the face can be successfully treated and What effect will this have?
BROW/FOREHEAD
On the brow we can soften the horizontal lines, soften the frown lines and surprise lines and prevent deeper lines from forming in this area. We can also raise the brows, especially the lateral third of the brow.
GLABELLAR/FROWN AREA/AREA BETWEEN THE EYES
This muscle is located between the eyebrows above the nose and when contracted makes vertical lines. These lines can be prevented from forming in the first instance, and otherwise softened and inhibited.
CROWS FEET/LATERAL EYE AREA
These are the fan like lines that form near the outside corners of the eyes, these can be smoothed and flattened
BUNNY LINES/NASAL BRIDGE
Diagonal and vertical lines on the top of the bridge of the nose are formed by contracting the nasalis muscle, these can be flattened and can remain smooth.
JAW AND BRUXISM/JAW CLENCHING AND GRINDING/ A SQUARE OR RECTANGULAR JAW and TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT DYSFUNCTION
The masseter muscle is the powerful muscle at the angle of the mandible. It is responsible for the force in chewing and grinding. If this muscle becomes very big and strong it can exert great force on your jaw and teeth. Some people have an unconscious habit of clenching and grinding their teeth during the day, or at night when they are asleep (Bruxism). Over use of this muscle can eventually cause damage to your teeth and can also lead to temporomandibular joint disfunction and or pain in this joint.
These non surgical treatments can assist in changing the shape of your face from a more square look to a more heart shaped look. Furthermore, these products placed in the muscle can weaken this muscle so much, that over time you do not clench and grind as much, and even if you do go back to this unconscious habit, your muscle is a great deal weaker and so does not cause as much damage to the surrounding structures.
NECK AND SCALP AREA: OCCIPITALIS, TEMPORALIS, TRAPEZIUS MUECLES
Can help relieve tension headaches and some migraines.
PLATYSMA MUSCLE /NECK
The Platysma is the broad shaped flat muscle that covers your neck. It is possible to get bands and lines on the neck, which can be smoothed out, and horizontal and vertical lines can be prevented from developing or becoming very prominent.
MENTALIS MUSCLE/CHIN MUSCLE
The chin muscle can be hyperactive and can look quite contracted even when you are not aware that you are activating this muscle. Relaxing this muscle can lead to a smoother, more relaxed chin.
LIP FLIP/LIPS
Treating specific spots on the upper lip can relax the muscle in the upper lip and cause the lip to flip out. Often patients who want an everted lip and have already had volume replacement, or don’t want anymore volume, but want a more substantial upper lip are interested in this treatment.
CORNERS OF YOUR MOUTH/DEPRESSOR ANGULI ORIS MUSCLE
If you have noticed that as you age, the corners of your mouth are starting to turn downwards, this can actually be prevented by treating the depressor muscles in this area.
HYPERHIDROSIS/ EXCESS SWEATING ON THE SOLES OF FEET, PALMS OF HANDS OR UNDERARMS
If you suffer from excess sweating on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet, you could have injections to decrease the amount of sweat that is produced. Similarly, in the summer months if you sweat a lot under your arms and would like this to be decreased, the sweat glands can be treated to prevent the amount of sweating that you experience.
What are The risks and complications?
- If you have too little product, you may not notice a strong enough effect
- If you have too much product, you may look too frozen
- If the product travels to the wrong muscle, you could get a temporary muscle paralysis that you do not want, such as a drooping eyelid
- You are given the recipe that is right for someone else, but not for you (everyone responds differently to the same amount of product in the same muscle), and you may get a poor result
- If your face is not assessed adequately you may get unwanted effects, such as dropped brow, which you may not enjoy
- Bruising
- Infection
- Bleeding
- Tolerance, meaning that you need more of the product than you did before, to get the same effect
How much will my treatment cost?
The cost of your treatment will depend on how much product needs to be used to achieve the result that you desire. Please do remember though, you are not just buying the product, you are buying the injectors experience and knowledge of anatomy.
