Why consider this treatment?
As we age, our facial skeleton resorbs, meaning that it becomes smaller and thinner and visibly loses volume. Consequently the skin appears much more loose and can begin to fold and crease. Treatment that adds volume to augment the facial skeleton can help restore bony volume and can improve the way the skin drapes over the bone and soft tissues.
Furthermore, as we age, we lose collagen and elastin and the quality of out skin changes, from being robust and plump, to being thinner and less elastic. There are certain kinds of treatments that are specifically used to improve skin quality and build more soft tissue volume over time.
What is it made from and how long does it last ?
Generally these products are made up of hyaluronic acid, which is a substance that is naturally produced in our bodies. Manufactured hyaluronic acid lasts longer than the naturally occurring hyaluronic acid for example some products last 6-9 months and some last as long as 2 years.
Where can I have these treatments?
Some anatomical areas that can be treated are the temples, nose, cheek bone, anterior check, mandible, chin, nasolabial folds, lips, smokers lines, peri-oral lines to name a few areas.
Should I have fat grafting to the face? or Should I rather have another volumising wrinkle reduction treatment?
If you are keen to have fat grafting to the face, but you are concerned about the unpredictability of fat grafting, then perhaps a volumising wrinkle reduction treatment may be an option for you to consider. Results are visible almost straight away and generally are more predictable than the results from a fat graft. However the results may not be permanent like fat, so if you would like a trial run of what things may look like you can have a consultation and Dr Wetton will discuss all of your options with you.
Non-surgical chin/cheek/mandible augmentation
For patients concerned about facial volume, or considering a chin implant, chin or jawline treatment is often an option to see if this is a look that you would like to achieve permanently.
Lips
Dr Wetton approaches lips with the same caution and attention as any surgical procedure. Too often patients may be turned off a treatment, because they have seen overfilled lips or a pouted ‘duck-bill’ style lip. The result of your treatment depends on the patient’s goals. What looks great to one patient may look oversized or unnatural to another. Aesthetics are subjective and personal. It is important to discuss with Dr Wetton the look that you would like to achieve. A small amount of added volume can often make a big difference to a small lip, so your lip augmentation should be assessed with regards to how it looks, rather than how much volume has been placed into the lips.
Non-surgical Rhinoplasty
The nose can be treated to help disguise a dorsal hump, or a lateral curve of the nose, or even to help project the nasal tip.
Acne Scar Treatment
Acne scars may can be bothersome and can cause significant distress. Volume can be added to certain areas of the skin and can be used to treat scars. This treatment is especially effective in disguising crater style acne scars. Book in your consultation to discuss with Dr Wetton if she can help you with your particular kind of acne scars.
What are the risks of volumising wrinkle reduction treatment?
- Too much product was used (Dr Wetton likes to err on the side of caution, she would prefer to be conservative, however if you feel that you have had too much product injected, it is possible to dissolve it)
- Too little product (It may be that you will wish to come back for a top up)
- Tissue ischaemia/ necrosis (It is possible that a small drop of product makes its way into a blood vessel, it can block the blood vessel and deprive an area in the face of blood, over time, this can cause tissue death)
- Vision disturbances and blindness: Although this is rare, it is one of the most serious risks and complications and all precautions are taken to avoid this occurring
- Bleeding
- Bruising
- Infection
- Protracted swelling
- Lumps and bumps
How much will my treatment cost?
The cost of your treatment will depend on how much product needs to be used to achieve the result that you desire. Please do remember though, you are not just buying the product, you are buying the injectors experience and knowledge of anatomy.
